Review Policy & Scoring Methodology

Last Updated: · Standardized benchmark testbench

1. The 10-Point Evaluation Scale

Every product reviewed by Gadgettsis evaluated on an empirical 1.0 to 10.0 scale, calculated down to one decimal place. Scores reflect a device's holistic performance, engineering quality, thermal stability, software longevity, and real-world price-to-performance ratio.

9.0 – 10.0Editor's Choice

Industry-defining hardware with extraordinary execution. Sets the benchmark for its category with virtually no significant compromises.

8.0 – 8.9Highly Recommended

Exceptional device. Outperforms peers in key benchmarks with minor drawbacks that do not diminish daily satisfaction.

7.0 – 7.9Solid Performer

A capable product that delivers on its core marketing claims, but faces strong competitive pressure or minor software rough edges.

Below 7.0Flawed / Pass

Significant weaknesses such as severe thermal throttling, poor battery life, defective software, or unrealistic retail pricing.

2. Standardized Testing Protocols

To eliminate subjective bias, our lab subjects hardware to controlled benchmark tests:

  • Sustained Silicon Stress: We run continuous multi-loop tests (Geekbench 6, 3DMark Wild Life Extreme / Steel Nomad, Cinebench 2024) to measure thermal dissipation and detect whether chipsets throttle clock speeds after 15+ minutes of continuous workload.
  • Standardized Battery Endurance: All mobile devices are calibrated to exactly 200 nits display brightness under controlled ambient illumination and subjected to looping web browsing, video decoding, and gaming workloads until automatic shutdown.
  • Display Metrics: Screen luminance, contrast ratios, and sRGB/DCI-P3 color gamut coverage are verified using hardware colorimeters.
  • Real-World Camera Testing: We capture hundreds of test photos across controlled low-light, high-contrast HDR, moving subjects, and portrait scenes to evaluate sensor sharpness and computational image processing.

3. Software Updates & Long-Term Re-evaluations

Consumer electronics evolve with post-launch firmware patches. If a manufacturer resolves an acute bug or substantially alters battery efficiency via an OTA update, we re-test the hardware in our lab and publish an updated analysis with clear revision notes.
